Series of 4 online workshops for Francophone newcomers

Are you a Francophone newcomer or a skilled immigrant with a permanent resident status who wants to integrate into the British Columbia labour market on a long-term basis?

In partnership with Douglas College, the SDECB offers a series of 4 workshops to help you understand and integrate the specificities of the BC job market: contract and employment law, CV and job interviews, integration and cross-cultural communication in the workplace.

Workshop 2 : Speed Jobbing Prep

  • Elevator pitches
  • Personal branding core areas and reviewing strengths based – talk about what they know
  • LinkedIn accounts (the importance of updating your profile to include customized URL, groups, notifying employers your looking, recommendations, endorsements, growing your community)
  • Possibly video elevator pitch



Karen Begemann, M.Ed. CCDP, has been guiding individuals in career transition for almost 20 years, many of whom have been newcomers to Canada. She enjoys assisting newcomers and immigrants to adapt to the Canadian labour market so that they may thrive. Karen is an instructor with Douglas College in the Career Development Practice Program where she teaches, among other courses, Interview Skills (including personal branding) both in the hybrid program and online. In her private practice, Work Matters Consulting, she specializes in working with return-to-work parents. She has also been teaching Ethics and Theories courses on behalf of the BCCDA

  • Each workshop requires a separate registration. You can register for one or more workshops.
  • Registration is mandatory in order to receive the ZOOM link to participate in the workshops.
  • The participation link will be sent to you 1 hour before the beginning of the session, on the email address you will have transmitted during your registration
