Young Canadians are showing remarkable entrepreneurial ambition! According to the GEM Canada 2024-2025 report (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor), Canadians aged 25 to 34 make up nearly 30% of the country’s new entrepreneurs, placing Canada first in the G7 for startup activity. Here in British Columbia, this dynamic is fully reflected: 98.4% of businesses are small businesses, and 17% of them are led by young entrepreneurs under the age of 35. These numbers demonstrate a real enthusiasm among young people for entrepreneurship and their essential role in the innovation and economic vitality of our province.
Since 2020, the Société de développement économique de la Colombie-Britannique (SDÉCB) has been actively involved in supporting young Francophones in their reflections, career choices, and preparation for an ever-changing job market. It is in this spirit that the SDÉCB, through its Youth initiative, proudly launches Les petits entrepreneurs en herbe, an educational comic strip entirely dedicated to the discovery of entrepreneurship.
A Collective Initiative to Awaken Creativity
Made possible through the financial support of RDÉE Canada and the valuable collaboration of three Francophone organizations in the province — the Conseil culturel et artistique francophonie de Colombie-Britannique (CCAFCB), La Boussole, and Éconova — this comic strip is fully in line with the SDÉCB’s mission: to promote the economic and entrepreneurial development of Francophones in British Columbia.
Designed as a pedagogical tool, the comic explores three complementary dimensions of entrepreneurship: social, sustainable, and artistic. Its objective is to raise awareness among young Francophones, from a young age, to the richness and diversity of the entrepreneurial world, while stimulating their imagination and sense of initiative.
Wide-Scale Distribution
Our wish is for this comic to reach a wide audience. Young people, teachers, educational and cultural partners, all will be able to benefit from this unique and unprecedented tool in Canadian Francophonie. A complementary exercise book will soon accompany the comic, offering fun and educational activities to deepen entrepreneurial thinking.
Thanks to national collaboration with RDÉE Canada, Les petits entrepreneurs en herbe could shine beyond British Columbia and inspire other young Francophones across the country.
Stay tuned, the comic Les petits entrepreneurs en herbe will be available soon! One step closer to a bold, creative, and economically empowered Francophone youth.
